Business efficiency software supplier Postcode Anywhere has been certified to the ISO 27001 international standard for information security.

The standard outlines best practice for an Information Security Management System (ISMS), and sets rigorous requirements for data protection, particularly critical in areas of business such as the finance, health, public and IT sectors.

Postcode Anywhere, whose suite of products includes UK and international address auto-fill, payment validation, route planning and mapping services, is one of a few ‘cloud computing’ or software-as-a-service providers to meet the standard.

Postcode Anywhere’s managing director Guy Mucklow said: “Unprotected systems are vulnerable to a wide variety of threats, so it is essential when choosing a service provider that users are mindful of the security levels they’re offered.

“Postcode Anywhere hosts over one billion separate data records from suppliers including Ordnance Survey, Dun & Bradstreet, Royal Mail, USPS and local government authorities, so we take our information security very seriously.

“Without systems to safeguard against security breaches, users take a significant risk when they involve a third party with their data, particularly when that data includes sensitive information or payment details.

“Ultimately, using a data specialist with a trusted independent certified system such as ISO 27001 is the only way to be sure your solutions provider has a system in which you can place genuine confidence.

Postcode Anywhere was approved to meet ISO 27001 by LRQA UK with a scope applicable to the “provision of verification, recording and maintenance of accurate data using hosted or local web services.”
